Application of knowledge to real life (Application/ Adaptation)
Definition:
Use acquired knowledge to solve problems, design solutions, & complete work
think in complex ways and apply knowledge and skills to create unique solutions to complex problems
Quadrant B and D of the Rigor and Relevance Framework from the International Center for Leadership in Education as used in the Model Core Curriculum
Conduct formal or informal observations of student performing the types of application/adaptation skills expected in postsecondary education or training settings (solve problems, design solutions to problems, complete tasks, think in complex ways, etc.). Document observations in the student’s file or portfolio.
Administer informal checklist assessment of competencies related to postsecondary education success using the Comprehensive Inventory of Transition Knowledge and Skills, Item 10 on p. 17 of
Informal Assessments for Transition Planning
(IATP).

Autism Spectrum Disorder
For students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, complete the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) by John N. Constantino, M.D.. This is 65-item rating scale that measures the severity of symptoms that impact social awareness, social information processing, capacity for reciprocal social communication, and social anxiety/avoidance. There are forms for both a teacher and a parent to complete. Individuals who have education, training, and work experience specific to ASD treatment can administer, score, and interpret the SRS.
